Client's Brief

"5G StandAlone could improve connectivity for rail passengers, reduce drivers' fuel spending, cut transport-related emissions and improve the movement of goods. It will enable many more “things” – anything from autonomous vehicles to building monitoring sensors, from smartphones to smart traffic lights – to be connected simultaneously. And because it is ‘cloud-native’, it can be updated and managed much more easily." Client's Brief

How would you translate these concepts into an - easy to digest - animated video?

Development

I believe the key is to keep it simple given the complexity of the tech concepts to describe. Harnessing the power of Motion Graphics, I created an animated explainer that talks about 5G and its potential using abstract shapes in 1 minute animation. I started by sketching a storyboard that helped to connect the different scenes in order to create a story that showcased all of the 5G StandAlone features. It's extremely helpful to have a visual reference that guide and help focus on every single steps of the animation process. I collaborated with the Head of Editorial to create the copy for the animated video. We had only a bunch of IT technical descriptions of the service at that time before the launch, and need to convert those into easy-to-understand visuals.
Following their brand colours, using simple shapes, I though that designing the journey of a particle that represented a stream of data was the right way to go. With some animated text on screen and some catchy music, the animated explainer comes to life. Watch the animated video on the VodafoneUK YouTube channel ↓
